David Thoms
Attorney of the Decade
A graduate of the University of Detroit, Mr. David Thoms has been at the forefront of the legal field since 1980. Establishing himself while at the practice of Miller, Canfield, Paddock, and Stone, Mr. Thoms soon branched out and joined the practice of Warner, Norcross, and Judd. Specializing in gift and estate planning, family business succession planning, nonprofit organizations, and wealth transfer, Mr. Thoms has dedicated himself to assisting his clients with delicate matters with grace, professionalism, and extensive knowledge. This expertiese has led to him being regarded as one of the foremost experts in the region.
Professionally, Mr. Thoms is a member of the American Bar Association and has acted as chairman of the subcommittee on probate and estate planning as well as a member of the charitable trust committee. Mr. Thoms is also a member of the Federal Bar Association, the Detroit Bar Association, the State Bar of Michigan, the American Planning Association, the Grosse Pointe Club, the Oakland County Bar Association, and the Bar Association of New York.
Over the course of his career, Mr. Thoms been recognized multiple times, including earning the title of Michigan Super Lawyer every year since 2004. Additionally, he has been named among the Best Lawyers in America annually since 2005. Mr. Thoms has also been awarded a Commander Order of Salvador Award from the Salvador Dali Museum in Florida, and is a decorated officer of the Ordre des Palmes Academiques.
When not busy with legal matters, Mr. Thoms is a patron of the arts. Mr. Thoms serves as President of the Allicance Francaise de Grosse Point, as treasurer of the board for the Visiting Committee for European Sculpture and Decorative Arts of the Detroit Institute of Arts.
