Michelle Gallagher | LPC, LISAC, CT, CGRS

I have a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling with a specialty in Trauma, Abuse, and Deprivation.  I hold two independent licenses in the state of Arizona as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and a Licensed Independent Substance Abuse Counselor (LISAC).  I also am a Certified Traumatologist (CT) with the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology.  I am trained in EMDR, a highly researched treatment modality for healing trauma, and am trained in Somatic Experiencing (SE), another modality used to heal trauma trapped in the body.  I am trained in Post Induction Therapy (PIT) by Pia Mellody, Senior Fellow at The Meadows, a pioneer in the treatment field.  I am also a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist (CGRS).  I successfully completed a Certificate Program in Traumatic Stress Studies through Bessel van der Kolk’s The Trauma Center at Justice Resource Institute, as well as an eight-month Leadership Institute Training through the Pacific Southwest Addiction Technology Transfer Center Network.

I have been working in the behavioral health field since 1992, holding various positions in several companies, including staff training coordinator, program manager, clinical supervisor, and clinical director.  Most recently, after serving as family therapist and primary therapist at the world-renowned Meadows Treatment Center, I took on the role of lead therapist for The Meadows’ very first Intensive Outpatient Program where I was asked to create the clinical program with guidance and input from Senior Fellow Claudia Black, PhD, also a pioneer in the treatment field.  I am a member of the American Counseling Association (ACA). Currently, I have a private practice that serves the Phoenix area where I make ‘house calls’, working with clients in their own homes or offices, or wherever they feel is safe and private and comfortable for therapy.  This helps them also when they have transportation or scheduling conflicts and cannot get to me.  I also do some contract work with a counseling company here in the valley.

I am a lover of animals, my four-legged fur-babies, the ocean, kayaking, photography, art, music, hiking, travel, and writing.  I believe in the Universe and manifesting a blissful, abundant life, magnetizing all that you desire to you.  I have been in successful long-term recovery myself since 1985.  I have a passion for this work that stems from having gone through my own extensive healing from trauma and a substance use disorder.  I know we can move beyond surviving, and really thrive.  People are not their experiences nor their behaviors; however, people create beliefs about themselves based on these experiences which drive emotions and behaviors.  I believe that clients already have the answers they seek inside of them and that my job is to create a safe environment so that those answers can emerge.
